Sandbox Software

What is a sandbox?

In computer security, a sandbox is a security mechanism for separating running programs. It is often used to execute untested code, or untrusted programs from unverified third-parties, suppliers and untrusted users.

The sandbox typically provides a tightly-controlled set of resources for guest programs to run in, such as scratch space on disk and memory. Network access, the ability to inspect the host system or read from input devices are usually disallowed or heavily restricted. In this sense, sandboxes are a specific example of virtualization.

Kavspersky SandBox 2010 - How i configure

1) In the main KIS window, select, My Security Zone
2) In the box "Safe Run (Sandbox) - Safe Run applications, click Add
3) Selecting "Applications" should show several possible programs and Explorer is likely to be shown as c:\Windows\explorer.exe (if it isn't there you may need to select "Browse" instead of "Applications"
4) Assuming you've now managed to get the IE icon showing in the "Safe Run applications" box you should be able to launch the program from either there or else from your normal desktop shortcut or start menu. BTW, if you right click on the icon in the "Safe Run applications" box, you can select from five menu items there. I find the two most relevant being "Always run in safe mode" and "Clear Safe Run data on exit".
5) Sometimes you need to disable the "Always run in safe mode" temporarily so that you can do live updates and the like because otherwise the changes probably won't stick so-to-speak.
